Its name literally means mountain of iron, Thabazimbi, South Africa is a town known to have the largest mining shafts and the biggest iron ore production in the entire continent. Thabazimbi, South Africa, despite its lush green surroundings, experiences hot and humid weather the entire year. It is the warmest and most comfortable during the middle of the year and thus is perfect for long hikes. If you are a fan of rock music, then come around August when the Oppikoppi Music Festival is taking place. But take note that many party goers visit the town during this time and Thabazimbi hotels have higher rates.

A place of sanctuary to diverse wildlife animals and home to the endangered Cape vultures is the Marakele National Park. It is one of the well-visited attractions in Thabazimbi. Close by, you will see the Ben Alberts Nature Reserve, where you can also interact with the vast wildlife animals living there. If you are down for a bigger adventure, then head on to Grootfontein Mountain where you bike through the trail which is as far as 30 miles.
