Tofte: Outdoor Snow Adventure and Excitement for the Whole Family
Tofte, MN was founded by twin brothers Andrew and John Tofte together with Hans and Torger Englsen. The Tofte and Englsen were from a community in Tofte, Norway, whose name was taken and used as the identity of this American town. Located a few miles from the city of Grand Marais and along within North Shore of Lake Superior, the region is home to the Superior National Forest and the Carlton Peak Lookout. Originally called Carlton, after Carlton Peak in 1893, Tofte took the name Tofte in 1899 when the twin Toftes arrived in the area and opened a sawmill in the region.

Visit the region during the months of April, June or May to get to enjoy the busy streets and attractions in the region. November is also a good month to visit and considered as the least expensive month to be in the area.

Lutsen Mountains and Lutsen Ski Area would be the perfect host for your outdoor snow activities in the region. The region is home to four mountains with 95 runs and a vertical drop that goes as high as 825 feet. The Oberg Mountain Loop is also a great destination during the cool season that also features incredible views of Oberg Lake and Sawtooth Mountains.
