China Bay Airport – TRR China Bay
China Bay Airport (TRR) is a domestic airport and an air force base in China Bay, Sri Lanka. This airport is 4.3 miles from Trincomalee and is also called Trincomalee Airport and SLAF China Bay. The British were the first ones to build this airport in the 1920s before it was moved to the Royal Ceylonese Air Force, which is now known as the Sri Lanka Air Force.
This public and military airport is owned by the government of Sri Lanka and is operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force. It is the home of the Sri Lanka Force Academy, which was put up in 1976. The airport grounds serve as the training facility for the officers and houses the combat training school and college.

TRR-China Bay serves several airlines including Air Senok, Helitours, FitsAir, Millennium Airlines, and SriLankan Airlines with local flights to a couple of destinations including Colombo, Jaffna, Sigiriya, and Hambantota to name a few. At the same time, TRR offers cargo flights to Colombo from FitsAir. The residents of the coastal cities of Trincomalee and Uppuveli use TRR Airport to get in and out of town.

There are plenty of places to see and visit when you’re in town. One of the best hotels near the airport for tourists is the Trinco Lagoon located in Trincomalee. This hotel is just 25 minutes away from China Bay Airport. The Pleasant Park Inn, on the other hand, is a cozy hotel, which can be accessed 28 minutes from the airport.
