Walker, California: A Mountainside Village in Eastern California
Known as a census-designated place along US-395, Walker, California is home to just over 700 residents. It is one of the only three northernmost settlements in the county. Walker was believed to be named after Joseph R. Walker, an experienced mountain climber who ascended the nearby Sierra Nevada range. Today, the town is yet to attract prominent hotels and lodging businesses to the area, but guests can still stay at the local inns located in the vicinity.

Walker, California, is located in a county that celebrates plenty of festivals and events throughout the year. One of the much-awaited events in the area is the Topaz Lodge Fishing Derby held at Topaz Lake, around a 15-minute drive from the city. This runs from January to April and attracts numerous fishing enthusiasts to Walker. This, in turn, creates a high influx of tourists to the town, almost fully booking most of Walker, CA hotels. The tourist population continues to rise through the summer season before declining during the fall.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The Walker City Park and West Fork Walker River Park are easily some of the best areas to stroll around when visiting Walker. From the parks, you can also drive to the Coleville Library in the neighboring town of Coleville, around a five-minute drive from Walker. When staying overnight in the city, you can either stay at Andruss Motel or the Meadowcliff Lodge. Both hotels offer affordable room rates and are conveniently located near the city center and US-395.
