West Plains, MO is the current county seat and a city in Howell County, Missouri. Originally traced back to its first settlers, Josiah Howell, the region was originally known as Howell Valley. The city later on adapted the name West Plains in relevance to the region being situated on a prairie and being on the western region of the nearby town Thomasville. Known as the “Heart of the Ozarks”, the region is considered as one of the best places for people to start a business or a family. The region is rich is manufacturing and agricultural surroundings. West Plains, MO is also home to the West Plains Bank Building, a structure included in the National Register of Historic Places.
