Wisconsin Dells: A Romantic River Getaway
Straddling the counties of Adams, Columbia, Juneau, and Sauk is the city of Wisconsin Dells, WI in south-central Wisconsin. Its name was lifted from the Dells of the Wisconsin River, a beautifully made canyon that features stunning sandstone structures. Wisconsin Dells used to be called Kilbourn City in 1857 after having been founded by Byron Kilbourn, an American surveyor, railroad executive, and politician. This city, fondly called The Dells, attracts roughly 5 million tourists a year, keeping the hotel and the whole tourism industry alive. Today, Wisconsin Dells is serviced by Dane County Regional Airport located 40 miles away from the city center.

Memorial Day week, Labor Weekend, and the Holidays are particularly busy dates and aren't perfect for those who want to stay away from crowds. A visit to Wisconsin Dells is recommended during the month of June when temperatures are still warm but room rates are 35% cheaper compared to rates in July. Temperatures are in the low 70s, a few degrees colder than the median 75°F during the peak season.
