Halifax Stanfield International Airport - YHZ Halifax
The story of Halifax Stanfield International Airport can be traced back to as early as 1931. At the time, it was known as Halifax Civic Airport and served as the main airport of the city. However, it was closed in 1942 and served as a military base. Three (3) years later, Halifax City, NS, Canada realized the need for an airport and asked the federal Department of Transportation for help in choosing a site for it. In 1954, a chosen site was approved and the city purchased it the following year.
