Yoron: One of Japan’s Picturesque Beach Sanctuaries
Yoron is part of the Amami Islands, an archipelago belonging to the Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. Also known as Yoronjima, Yoron, Japan is the southernmost island and has an area of 8 square miles. Much of Yoron culture is shared with Okinawa except for several religious practices. A few people in Yoron speak the native Yunnu futuba dialect. An airport near Yoron is Okinoerabu Airport (OKE).
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Yoron, Japan to catch the best weather conditions is from October to May. The weather during this time pleasant and warm without reaching the sweltering heat that comes with summer. September and October are good months to visit to avoid peak season. Those who do visit in the summer can catch the annual Amami Festival, one of Oshima’s largest seasonal celebrations. Another festival, held in August, is the Sango Matsuri, or Coral Festival.

The Yoron Folk Village is a preserved replica of a traditional Yoron village, featuring thatched roof huts and traditional textiles and items that are still in use in certain areas of the island. The Kotohira Shrine devoted to sailors and maritime transport. It is both a Shinto and Buddhist worship site that is believed to have been built in the first century.
