Yurihama: Capital of Nashi Pears
Yurihama, Japan is a town located in Japan’s Tohoku Prefecture. Geo-politically, it is a newly “established” town that resulted from the merging of various villages, namely, Togo, Tomari, and Hawaii. Due to its mineral-rich soil and ideal weather conditions, Yurihama is known as one of the top producers of Nashi pears. It is also frequently visited by tourists for its soothing hot springs and panoramic view of Lake Togo.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to experience the hot springs of Yurihama is during the cold months of February. However, those who would like to witness a festivity should book their Yurihama hotel for the month of July. The Hawaiian Festival is a festival done in partnership with its sister town, Hilo. It is featured with hula performances, concerts, cultural exchanges, and firework displays.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the most serene places in Yurihama is the Enchoen Chinese Garden that is beautifully located fronting the Lake Togo. It was built to symbolize the friendship between Totto Prefecture and the Hebei Province of China. For a religious and cultural experience, visitors are encouraged to drop by at the Shitori Shrine, one of Japan’s Natural Treasure that is home to many sutra artifacts. Those who would like to stay at a traditional Japanese-style hotel should arrange their reservation at the Togo Onsen Kosenkaku Yojokan. This hotel has its own natural hot spring and offers a great view of the lake. Another awesome Japanese-style hotel is Sennentei, which is close to many tourist spots such as the Pear Museum, Ibuki Park, and Ueshi Castle Remains.
