Mineralwells: The Town Pioneers Built
Originally called Mineralwells, WV, this census-designated place located in Wood County, West Virginia has been officially renamed by the United States Postal Service to Mineral Wells. This small community of a little less than 2,000 residents used to be a parcel of the 28,000-acre land that George Washington was supposed to receive. The first settlers recorded came from Virginia in the late 1700s. They built 5 cabins surrounding the Little Kanawha River and called it Claysville. The earlier economic drivers of this small village revolved around mills, lumbers, and trade. Today, remnants of the earlier lives of the pioneers are still exhibited in Mineral Well's architecture. Well-preserved cabins have been turned into inns and some stores are still in operation. The town's aviation needs are serviced by the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport, located just 12 miles away.
