Knox County Regional Airport – RKD
Built during World War II, Knox County Regional Airport is a public use airport in the Knox County of Maine, United States. The county-owned airport is about 3.5 miles away from the city of Rockland, Maine, providing the midcoast with commercial and chartered airline services. RKD Airport is served by passenger airlines Cape Air, with flights to Boston, and Penobscot Island Air, with flights to Matinicus, North Haven, and Vinalhaven.

Formerly owned by the city of Rockland, the Knox County Regional Airport was turned over to Knox County in 1968. During the war, it was called the Ash Point Naval Air Station with three runways. Two of the asphalt runways are still in working condition with one extending to 5,007 feet long and the other to 4,000 feet. The airport is now categorized as a primary commercial service airport with approximately 17,657 passenger boardings in 2010. Aside from the aircraft-related facilities, the Owls Head Transportation Museum is also found in RKD Airport. Displaying vintage automobiles, aircrafts, and even engines, the museum is set up on the abandoned third runway. Bernard, Bar Harbor and Otter Creek are some of the cities surrounding the RKD.
