Wakkanai Airport (WKJ) is a public airport located 6.2 miles of Wakkanai, Japan situated in Hokkaidō. WKJ-Wakkanai is a public airport operated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
It is the northernmost airport in the country and is sometimes closed during the cold winter season. Once this happens, the airplanes are usually diverted to Asahiwaka Airport which is also located in Hokkaidō beside the cities of Asahikawa and Higashikagura. This small airport can handle jet aircraft and has one jet bridge, a gate for mid-size jet aircraft, and two gates that can accommodate commuter aircraft.

Wakkanai Airport opened in 1960 with irregular operations. In 1947, this airport began servicing Air Nippon with flights to Okadama Airport in Sapporo and Rishiri Airport in Rishirifuji. Both airports are located in Hokkaidō.
WKJ Airport serves All Nippon Airways with flights to Tokyo and ANA WINGS with routes to Sapporo. There are regular bus services from WKJ to Wakkanai Ferry Terminal and Wakkanai Station. The bus schedule coincides with the scheduled flights of ANA. WKJ mainly serves the city of Wakkanai.
