Cortina Airport with code CDF is located in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The abandoned airport is also called Fiames Airport because of its location. It was also called Cortina d’Ampezzo Airport because it is within the boundaries of the municipality. Cortina is a town located at the heart of the Dolomite Mountains in the region of Veneto. Cortina Airport was created in the 1950’s. Its main purpose was for the event in the area and this is the 1956 Winter Olympics. However, the airport was closed down in 1976 after an accident that involves a small aircraft. All the passengers including the pilot were killed immediately in the crash that happened after takeoff. Nearby cities include Canazei and Penia.
