Chitose: Experience a New Kind of Summer
Chitose, Japan is a city which is located in the west-central area of Hokkaido. It is also about 24 miles south-east of Sapporo. Chitose is also situated on Tomakomai on the railway which about 11 miles in the south. In order to access the city, a traveller can land through the New Chitose Airport (CTS) which opened in the 1980s or the nearby Okadama Airport (OKD). The city is said to the extension of the famous tourist spot of Sapporo. After the first World War, there was a growth in a commercial and industrial harbour of the nearby cities. Shikotsu-Toya National Park is a major tourist attraction found in the west of Chitose.
Best Time to Visit
The best month to visit Chitose is in July. However, take note it is not all about the sun and heat for this town. It gets about 5 to 6 hours of sun a day, and it often rains at night. Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable. During peak season, Chitose, Japan hotels are quite expensive. During winter, the much-awaited event is the Chitose Ice Festival.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Situated next door to Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Chitose is one of the best cities for those who want a less touristy destination. Three snow-capped mountains surround the town. One of them is Mount Tarumae. For those who are travelling with kids, North Safari Sapporo is a top destination.
