Cam Ranh International Airport – CXR Nha Trang
Serving the city of Nha Trang, Cam Ranh International Airport is an international airport situated at Cam Ranh Bay, in the province of Khan Hoa, Vietnam. The airport is known to have served more international passengers as compared to domestic passengers. This is due to the rising tourism industry of Nha Trang, Vietnam. In fact, Cam Ranh Airport is the fourth busiest airport in Vietnam. As of 2018, the airport held a record of handling 8.5 million passengers and is expected to increase up to 10 million by 2019.
Best Time to Visit
The airport was established by the US government at the height of the Vietnam War. Cam Ranh Airport was used as the US Air Base. The airport was then turned over to the government of South Vietnam by 1972. From 1979 until 2002, the airport was used by the Soviet and Russian Air Force due to a 25-year rent-free lease. In 2004, the airport had a major reconstruction to fit the needs of a commercial airport service facility. The first commercial flight was from Hanoi. Since, then the number of aircraft serving the area, as well as the number of travelers has vastly increased. Passengers going to Ninh Phuoc or Cam Ranh often use the airport for their travel.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The airport does not have an onsite hotel. Instead, travelers can book their accommodation at Cam Ranh Riviera Beach Resort & Spa or Fusion Resort Cam Ranj. These hotels are situated at least an hour's drive away from the airport. Hence, for convenience, it is advisable to arrange for an airport shuttle service that can take them to and from the hotel.
Passengers can also travel via Tuy Hoa Airport.
