Nha Trang Air Base – NHA Nha Trang, Vietnam
The Nha Trang Airport may refer to either of the 2 airports serving Nha Trang, KhánhHòa Province, Vietnam. The original airstrip at Nha Trang USAFB was built by American soldiers in 1965. Today, the Cam Ranh International Airport (IATA: CXR) handles all domestic and international flights to Nha Trang while the old Nha Trang airport in Nha Trang city, now known as Nha Trang Air Base (IATA code: NHA) which was previously used for both civil and military purposes has ceased its operations of commercial flights and is now closed.
Best Time to Visit
The NHA-Nha Trang Air Base played an active role in the military operations in the First Indochina War from 1946 until 1954. In 1975, the People’s Army of Vietnam took hold of it and was later used as a military airfield/civil airport. The base was utilized by the Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) until 2009 when it moved its operations to Cam Ranh Air Base. In 2016, it was disclosed that it would be sold for redevelopment. Some of the districts in KhánhHòa Province like Cam Lâm, Cam Ranh and Ðại Lãnh are areas that surround the defunct air base.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Several 4-star hotels are near the Nha Trang Air Base as well as the Cam Ranh airport. These are the Duy Puoc Hotel, the Dung Thanh Hotel, and the posh Edele Hotel. All of these hotels are just more or less 2km away from the airport.
The other Nha Trang, Vietnam airport is the Cam Ramh Airport (CXR), located on Cam Ranh Bay and serves the city of Nha Trang.
