Ísafjörður Airport– IFJ
Ísafjörður Airport is a public airport that serves the town of Ísafjörður, Iceland. Found in a fjord in the country’s Westfjords region, it offers a unique and extreme challenge in maneuveringcompared to most airports. Not only does the surroundings require pilots to fly very close to the natural terrain, but approach from either direction is impossible to take straight-in and a 180-degree turn is needed to make the northeast landings. It is served by the regional airline Air Iceland Connect, which flies to Iceland’s capital Reykjavík. The Ísafjörður Airport is operated by Isavia, the national airport and air navigation service provider of Iceland.

Found at an elevation ofjust 8 feet above mean sea level, Ísafjörður Airport has an asphalt runway that measures 4,593 feet in length. This runway can support most single-engine aircraft, business jets, light twins, and smaller commuter transports.In the year 2016, the regional airport was able to accommodate a total of 33,076 passengers.

Ísafjörður Airport is the only airport in town and the others are quite far away. The closest local airport is Thingeyri Airport in Thingeyri, Iceland, while international travelers will need to go to the distant Keflavík International Airport in Reykjavik, Iceland to catch flights to other countries.
