Jefferson, TX is one of the cities in Marion County that is a popular tourist destination. Every house and commercial buildings havetheir own story to tell from the time it was founded in 1841. In fact, the city was named after Thomas Jefferson, the third US President from 1801 to 1809. Jefferson, TX was the first town to use natural gas as artificial lighting in 1867 and in the next year, manufactured the first ice in a commercial scale.

The ideal time to visit the city is from mid-March to mid-May or from the end of September to early November where the weather is not too hot or too cold. If you are a history buff, the best place to visit is Jefferson Historical Museum, a former Federal Courthouse that was built in 1890 and Historic Jefferson Railway, a sight-seeing steam train. The train travels along the shores of Big Cypress Bayou and the northern Texas dense forest. If you prefer leisure activities like fishing, swimming, and camping, Lakeside Park is the perfect place for you.
