Mbarara: A Quiet City in Western Uganda
The town of Mbarara can be found in the Western Region of the Republic of Uganda. It is considered as the chief administrative, commercial, and municipal center of the district of Mbarara. Mbarara also hosts the district headquarters. The community was founded in 1901 but became a township in 1957 before it was declared as a municipality in 1974. It is also expected that the town will be hailed as a city in 2020.Mbarara, Uganda is served by Mbarara Airport, a civilian airfield located nine kilometers from the northwestern side of the city. The downtown area of Mbarara is packed with numerous shops and restaurants, along with hotels and inns for the guests’ convenience.
Best Time to Visit
Every September, the town hosts Toto Festival Mbarara. This activity features various entertainment, kids’ games and competitions, and a face painting event. The spring season in Mbarara is just beginning by this time of year, signaling the start of the slow season in the town. That said, expect plenty of discounted rates at the majority of Mbarara, Uganda hotels.

While in the city, you can stay at the Acacia Hotel Mbarara, which is just a ten-minute walk to Mbarara Regional Hospital. The hospital is also near Mbarara University Of Science And Technology, one of the degree-awarding institutions in the country. If you are visiting Mbarara Golf Course, which is just an 11-minute walk away from the university, you can stay at Oasis Inn Mbarara and Palace Hotel, which are both within walking distance from the site.
