Best Time to Visit
The history of RFD Airport can be traced as far back as 1917. But it wasn’t until 1946 that the Greater Rockford Airport Authority was created and in 1954, construction of the airport and terminal commenced. The airport then, had undergone a lot of name changes, from Northwest Chicagoland Regional Airport at Rockford in early 2000 and then renaming it again to the Chicago/Rockford International Airport. The slash was later on erased in the year 2007 to what is now known as the Chicago Rockford International Airport. The Rockford airport is marketed not only to residents of Rockford but also surrounding areas such as Willow Springs, Southmoor, and Riverwoods. RFD uses low fares for their marketing.
