The city of Tarakan, Indonesia sits just across the border from Sabah, Malaysia. It is also the name of the island located in the province of North Kalimantan. During the Dutch colonial era, it be used to be a major oil-producing region and played a big part during the Pacific War for its strategic location thus it was among the first Japanese targets. Visit the best place to see the endangered prosbocis monkey in the region at Bekantan Conservation Area Mangrove Park. Stroll and shop at the Grand Tarakan Mall dubbed as one of the biggest shopping centers in the city. Then swing by the famous Stadium Datu Adil to watch sports competitions or just have a serene time admiring the scenery. Hotels in the area are aplenty.
