Yokkaichi: A Significant Tourist Destination
Yokkaichi, Japan is a city in Mie that started to develop during the Kamakura Period. Then, its port developed during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. A regular market was open every fourth, 14th, and 24th of every month. As such, it adopted its current name, which literally means “market on fourth day”. In 2000, it received a special city status.
