Rialto Bridge is a stone-arch bridge that spans the Grand Canal. Constructed during the 12th century, Rialto Bridge is the oldest bridge in Venice, Italy. It underwent several renovations due to the partly burning by a revolt and by the weight of the crowd watching a boat parade. Today, it is a significant tourist attraction in Venice. The structure was first named Ponte della Moneta due to the mint located in the eastern part of its entrance. In Robert Browning’s poem, it was called Shylock’s Bridge. It was renamed to its present name due to the importance of the Rialto market.
