A science center and a research facility, the McWane Science Center is home to four floors of interactive exhibits and the only IMAX theater house in Birmingham, Alabama. Some of the exhibitions that it features are an aquarium containing around 50 marine species and a floor containing around half a million samples of Native American artifacts. It is also home to a collection of mosasaur fossils, including that which belongs to an Appalachiosaurus and a Basilosaurus cetoides. There is also a play area where toddlers can explore called Bitty Magic City.
After spending a couple of hours at McWane Science Center, tourists can also go to the nearby Da Vinci Museum, which showcases drawings from the late master-artist. Another artistic place to go to is the Design Museum, a 6,500 square feet gallery that celebrations the evolving design science.
